On September 16, 2022, Professors Linker and Campos welcomed students, staff, and faculty into Huskiana to celebrate its reopening. Huskiana’s co-directors have been busy getting the press in order to welcome students, staff, and faculty back into the press suite. We already have several classes planning to visit this semester, but the plan is to hold regular programming (such as the Wayzgoose) so folks can drop-in and give printing and book arts a try while learning a little bit about the histories of book and printing technologies.

Also, we really like rebuses (typographical/pictorial puzzles). Can you figure out the rebus we printed? It was very popular in the nineteenth century. The answer can be found at the end of this post.

Hint: Try to sound out different combinations of letters and pictures until you get a coherent sentence. Some sounds are straightforward. Other sounds require a little more creativity. Here are some additional pictures from the event.

Ready for the rebus solution? It’s: “Too wise you are, too wise you be. I see you are too wise for me!” The trickiest part was trying to figure out how to read “YY” — it’s two ys which sounds like too wise.

Setting a rebus was fun — we may have more to share with you in the future!
